THE ROCK HOUSE XMAS PARTY

Next week The Rock House is having it's Christmas party, with a difference!

After the success of the PKN & Zombie Crash tour, and the gig in Brighton especially, The Green Door Store asked us to put more events on there... this is a big deal for everyone involved with The Rock House for the past 4 and a half years, The Green Door Store is one of Brighton's best venues and right at the heart of Brighton's music scene. For us to be invited to put on a gig with some of the learning disabled scene's best bands and musicians is amazing and we're all really excited about it happening. We're going to keep the format and atmosphere of The Rock House as you know and love it, short sets from loads of bands, eclectic music, relaxed, unpretentious and welcoming... If you've ever wanted to bring friends or family down to The Rock House this is the one to come to! Loads of space to rock out AND there's a bar! ;)

We've hand-picked an amazing line-up for this one, everyone we asked to play agreed straight away so you are in for a real treat! Playing on the night will be -

Daniel Wakeford
The Fish Police
The Coasters
Catherine O'Rourke

Hello!

Here's your reminder about the next Rock House, which this month comes a week early...

Give It Back

Hey, i've been going through the archive of photos and videos from The Rock House and found an amazing video which I just had to share with you.

The Rock House Band is an integral part of what The Rock House is, a chance to provide time on stage performing for those that usually don't have the opportunity, it is always 100% improvised and is always a great way to embrace the more chaotic, visceral and open nature of music from musicians with learning disabilities.

This video is from February 2012 and features Stephen Barnett on vocals and Sean Teague on guitar, supported by Tom Cook on keys and myself on drums. Sean sadly passed away five months after this video was filmed, he was a regular at The Rock House and is still missed, his guitar playing was some of the best i've ever seen and this video I think is a perfect example of that.

I hope you enjoy the video.

ROCK HOUSE : Halloween?!

Hi,

Apologies on this being a bit late... still recovering from the absolutely incredible and amazing Pertti Kurikan Nimipäivät and Zombie Crash UK Tour... those of you that were at the gig in Brighton will know what i'm talking about when I say they were some of the best gigs i've ever been to!

Anyway, more of that another time! On to next week... The 46th Rock House, celebrating Halloween with as much Pop as we can handle!

It is on Tuesday the 15th of October at the Westhill Hall in Brighton.

The line up looks like this -
  • Beat Express opening up the night
  • There will be 2 sets from the Rock House Band, featuring Dedji & Richard Watson. If you know someone who just wants to turn up and play, this is the band to be in!
  • The Fuzz Flash Band returning again
  • Dancing Rock Queens will be making a welcome return.
  • Catherine O'Rourke will be bringing her 80's pop vibe to the Rock House
  • The Hit Party Crashers will be there to get everyone dancing. All the details you need for the night are at the bottom of the email...

To get you in the mood for next week, here is a video of The Fish Police tearing it up at last month's Rock House!

4TH BIRTHDAY!!!!

I'm afraid it looks like Summer is over... never fear though because we're back and have The Rock House's 4th Birthday to celebrate!

I know, i know... 4 years!!! Crazy.

It is on Tuesday the 17th of September at the Westhill Hall in Brighton.

To celebrate in style we've put together a classic Rock House line-up and got in some extra special guests to top it all off...
  • The Fuzz Flash Collective will be performing the hits of the Fuzzbomb band and the Flash Rockers
  • There will be 2 sets from the Rock House Band, featuring Dedji & Richard Watson. If you know someone who just wants to turn up and play, this is the band to be in!
  • Zombie Crash will be there to tear it up ahead of their UK tour next month (more on that later!)
  • Daniel Wakeford will be making a welcome return.
  • Beat Express will be bringing the hits to the table to get everyone dancing, and finally...
  • The Fish Police are coming down from London for us to perform hits from their soon to be released debut album, "The Marzipan Transformations". This is going to be big!

To get you in the mood, here is the new video from The Fish Police for their song, "Fish Water"...

---
So... Zombie Crash going on tour?!

Yes, you heard right… the "animalistic metal" band are going to be travelling up and down the country in October, to London, Leeds, Sheffield and Brighton, along with the incredible Pertti Kurikan Nimipäivät (stars of the film The Punk Syndrome) at integrated shows with some of the best DIY punk bands in the country. Constant Flux received a grant from the Arts Council to make this all happen too.

It is all very exciting indeed!

Below is the flyer for the tour, including a Brighton date on Friday the 4th of Octoberat the Green Door Store. More information on that date can be found on thisFacebook page.

Hopefully see you at one of the gigs!!!

SUMMER FUN

Hope you're all enjoying the sunshine!

We had an amazing Rock House this July... with a solo set from Ryan O'Donovan (of Beat Express & Zombie Crash fame), the return of the mighty Richard WatsonCatherine O'Rourke, The Rock House Band went down a storm last month made an appearance with members even coming from Croydon to join in! The Teddy Boys (featuring Lee from Bubbaloo and Beat Express) were amazing, The brilliant Hit Party Crashers played and Sabien Gator headlined. It was a great way to finish up before Summer... remember there's no Rock House in August but we're back with a bang in September for our FOURTH BIRTHDAY!!!! Wow, we've been going for 4 years now!! Pat on the back to us!

We've got some treats in store for our Birthday Rock House, including some special guests coming down for the night... stay tuned for more info!

-----

In other news though -

I have uploaded another 3 albums to the Rock House Records bandcamp website which you should definitely check out. These are -

DJ Ivon's soon-to-be-classic 2nd album "Southern Beats". An amazing journey through his interests in computer games, hip hop, dubstep, pop music, extreme sports, horror movies, metallica, his dreams and popular culture. It's a crazy mix but DJ Ivon totally makes it work.

Catherine O'Rourke's debut album, "This is My Passion". Recorded at her mum'shouse over a couple of months many years ago, with just her voice, her keyboard and her 8-track recorder. It's raw 80's influenced sound is an amazing document of her skills as a songwriter and singer.

Mr Skrapz, debut mixtape, "Boy in the Hood UK". Influenced by UK grime and dubstep as well as US hip hop like Mobb Deep, this mixtape is a collection of Mr Skrapz's instrumentals, reworkings of classics and his own original material. Hard bass music for hard bass heads!

You can download these and other albums from our bandcamp page. All the profits go direct to the artists!

Gig Buddies

Hey!

So you know we're all big fans of live music here at The Rock House, well our friends over at Stay Up Late have started a much needed scheme for supporting people with learning disabilities to get out to gigs more, they've called it Gig Buddies. We all think this is a great idea so I asked Madeline from Gig Buddies to let us know a little bit more...

"If you enjoy the Rock House, and would like to get out to more gigs and events in Brighton, then Stay Up Late's 'Gig Buddies' project may be for you. Gig Buddies enables people with learning disabilities to get out to more gigs and enjoy more music events. The project pairs adults with a learning disability with a volunteer who has similar interests in music or other kinds of fun. If you are interested in participating or volunteering, contact Madeline at - madeline@stayuplate.org"

P.S. I once supported someone to go see Motorhead at the Brighton Dome... I had an amazing night and it was possibly the loudest thing i've ever seen!

P.P.S. It' Alright, I'm Awesome....

Friendship is the Best!

We had another exceptional night at the last Rock House, there were definitely some 'moments' and luckily we had one caught on camera by Emily... The debut performance from the HIT PARTY CRASHERS! Newcomers to the Rock House, they've been practicing at home and were super excited to be finally playing in front of everyone... No one knew what to expect and they definitely impressed us all, as you can see they got everybody up and moving instantly!

In other news that is related to the Rock House, two of our regulars Daniel Wakeford and Zombie Crash played two amazing integrated gigs in February with bands from the UK DIY music scene and from the learning disability music scene. Organised by Richard from the Rock House, there was one at the Green Door Store in Brighton and another at the Shacklewell Arms in London. They were both to raise funds to help bring over the Finnish punk band Pertti Kurikan Nimipäivät, who sadly had to cancel their original gigs. The shows went brilliantly and both Daniel and the 'Crash blew everyone away! Down at the Rock House we've always known they were great but now they're showing the rest of the world!

-----

Now on to next week... As always the music starts at 7:30 but if you'd like to come down and help out setting up and hang out you can do so from 6:30.

The night finishes at 9:30.

It's £2 on the night (carers free/donation) and we have cans of drink for sale for 50p

Looking forward to seeing you there!!
